On August 30th we welcomed two very engaging and knowledgeable speakers to share their insights on our theme: How does digital media affect human-nature relationships and impact conservation?

Chris McCormack is the co-founder and managing director of Australia’s first nature connection charity, Remember The Wild. He has a background in ecology and marine biology, and is currently studying a PhD in conservation psychology; investigating the links between narrative and connection with nature. Chris is a passionate communicator who enjoys telling stories about the natural world through a variety of mediums, including; film, podcasts, and more. He discussed his research and experience in how film can impact human/nature relationships.

Dr Cassie Freund discussed Measuring the conservation impacts of non-profit and researcher social media posts on primates and people. Dr Freund is a recently minted PhD and fellow at the Center for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability at Wake Forest University looking for a non-academic job in conservation. In addition to her conservation marketing research, she studies the impacts of natural disturbances on tropical forests in Peru and Indonesia. You can find her on Twitter @CassieFreund.
